Adith Arun, the actor of 'Katha', 'Weekend Love' and 'Tungabhadra' fame, awaits the release of 'L7' on Oct 21. In this exclusive interview to IndiaGlitz, he talks about why the movie is different, the subject of the movie, how he has become a better actor with this and more.
The title 'L7' is pretty curious. What is the idea behind it?
Initially, we felt that although the script is great, the title is not commercial-sounding. But, as it turned out, the audience are now curious about the title. How to make our film poster look attractive amidst posters of romantic entertainers and mass films was a priority. We thus came up with the poster where the two shades of my character and seven faces are seen. 'L7' is going to be released in about 250 screens in the Telugu States and in US.
Is there a supernatural element in the script?
Nothing as such. 'L7' is mainly a romantic thriller. It's about how far you run to save your love. As the film opens, a married couple are introduced. The entire story takes place within a span of a week. It's a commonplace reality that, nowadays, young couples increasingly don't spend much quality time together. They are busy with gadgets et al. The director prepared the story out of this.
What is the story behind the female-like get-up you are donning?
If I say more, the line will be revealed. Those portions were shot mostly in the narrow by-lanes of the old city area. The 'gagra' costume I am wearing weighs 17-18 kgs. As the trailer shows, there are believed to be seven person looking alike. What if any two of them born at the same time cross paths?
What is unique about Mukund Pandey, who has worked in the team of Vikram Kumar?
He is a very good screenplay writer and does a scientific planning. There are no loose ends in his writing. Usually when we watch a thriller, we search for logic. On that count, 'L7', I must say, is a scientific thriller. At one place, a scene talks about temperature differences, for example.
How have you grown as an actor after doing this movie?
I had hitherto done only romantic movies. 'Tungabhadra' was the only action movie. Coming to 'L7', it's an urban romantic and action entertainer. So, I got to to be little more of myself. I play a character who has the maturity to see through and solve a problem. We had to shoot in live locations, under sun, etc. I was looking for a transformation and this film is the answer.
Going by the trailer, the technical departments have done a good job. Tell us about the production values.
If a film of this genre doesn't have good visuals, it will look like a B-grade one. So, extra efforts had to be put in to make it look A grade. And every department contributed for that. Cinematography is by Durga Prasad, who has done a great job. Music is by Arvind-Shankar, the talents from Chennai, who have won the National Award for a Tamil movie. They had earlier composed two songs for 'Ishq'. 'L7' is their first full-fledged Telugu film. The special effects are another plus. The visuals are very realistic. They all will elevate the movie-watching experience.
Tell us about the comedy quotient.
Vennela Kishore is best known for urbane comedy. He is doing that here, besides slapstick humour. The scenes, together which have a run-time of about 20 minutes or so. 125 minutes.
What is the idea behind conducting blood donation camps across cities?
We wanted to conduct blood donation camps across 7 cities (Vizag, Rajahmundry, Tirupathi, Chittoor, Puttoor, Guntur, Vijayawada and other towns). It was when the Red Cross chief told us about the need to spread awareness about a rare cancer that affects children. The affected won't live for more than 20-30 years and as long as they are alive, they should undergo blood transfusion every 6 months. We are talking about it to people wherever we are going. The response is overwhelming. Contrary to the misconception that youngsters would be interested only in entertainment, they are responding to our message enthusiastically. They first thought we were there to promote our movie. Gradually, they believed in our sincerity. I urge people to donate blood as it won't affect health negatively in any way. If anything, it is good for health.
What are your upcoming movies?
I am doing a film in the direction of Praveen Sattaru of 'Chandamama Kathalu' and 'Guntur Talkies' fame. Dr. Rajsekhar garu is playing a key role. The title is 'Garuda Vega'. I am doing also a film with Venkatesh, a protege of Maruthi garu. The title is 'Na Pere Raja'. There is a Tamil movie meant to be sent for awards.
